ISET was founded in 1988 and specialises in the application orientated research for the electrical and system engineering use of renewable energies. With approximately 140 scientists, employees and students at the two institute locations in Kassel and Hanau, the Institute ranks among the leading research establishments internationally in this area.
The renewable energies which ISET focuses on are wind energy, photovoltaic, biomass use, as well as water power and sea energy.
In the area of the use of biomass for energy, ISET studies the generation of electricity from biomass and concentrates here particularly on the small and middle capacity ranges for the decentralized use of biogas. A special emphasis of research is on the use of biomass with new energy technologies, like Micro gas turbines, gas cells, stirling engine and photovoltaic. Projects for the use of biomass for energy are worked on particularly within the FuE area.
